Bloomberg, Apple Acquires Startup Developing Advanced AI for Phones

애플이 스마트폰에서 Perceptio라는 스타트업을 인수했다.

Perceptio의 목표는 대용량의 외부 데이터 저장소 없이 스마트폰에서 AI 이미지 분류 시스템을 실행하는 기술을 개발하는데 있다. 이것은 이용자 데이터 사용을 최소화하고 기기에서 가능한 프로세스를 처리하려는 애플의 전략과 일치한다.

Perceptio’s goals were to develop techniques to run AI image-classification systems on smartphones, without having to draw from large external repositories of data. That fits Apple’s strategy of trying to minimize its usage of customer data and do as much processing as possible on the device.

새로운 iOS에서 다양한 추천기능을 사용하는데 개인정보를 보호하면서 어느 정도 수준의 추천 알고리즘을 만들 수 있을지 의문이 있었는데 최근 관련 기업들 인수가 많은 것 같다.
